Gaming Industry will literally kill itself with how this year is going. Give it roughly 8 more years. What XBOX is doing and now PlayStation yeah not going to do well in my opinion. This industry is just not becoming an affordable hobby for people anymore

Former BioWare producer Mark Darrah thinks the gaming industry should explore product placement to help pay for game development and rely less on live-service monetization. Discussing how expensive AAA games have become to make, Darrah said the industry needs more revenue streams besides selling games, DLC, microtransactions, and battle passes. “Not every game can be a live service,” he said, warning that if the trend continues, most big-budget games could end up built around ongoing monetization instead of delivering a complete experience from the start. Darrah noted that movies have multiple revenue streams, including product placements and brand deals. He believes video games could do something similar to cover development costs without constantly asking players to spend more after buying the game.

A Diablo 4 lead developer says crunch in gaming doesn’t always happen for the same reason, and the difference between indie studios and AAA companies is huge. He explained that smaller teams often crunch because they’re fighting to survive financially. In his words, “the company is on the verge of collapsing,” meaning delays or failed launches could put the entire studio at risk. He said the situation is different at major AAA publishers. Large companies usually have bigger budgets, more staff, and enough resources to avoid forcing developers into extreme overtime. But despite that, “you might still have a culture of crunch” because some studios treat long hours as a normal part of development. Crunch has been one of the biggest issues in the gaming industry for years, especially after reports from studios behind major releases revealed stories of burnout Via gamesradar

After 37 years, veteran game programmer Colin Porch has completed and released a sequel to the classic 1987 game Head Over Heels. The project started in 1989 but was shelved when the gaming industry shifted from home computers to consoles. The new game, titled Return to Blacktooth, continues the legacy of the original cult classic, famous for its unique isometric design. Porch had worked on popular versions of the original and kept the sequel idea alive for decades. The project revived after Porch reunited with former colleagues from Ocean Software. Inspired by the resurgence of retro gaming, he completed the unfinished game as a passion project. Published by Thalamus Digital, it has launched for the Commodore Amiga and Atari ST. It features hundreds of rooms across multiple worlds while staying true to the original's style and gameplay.
