Electric air taxi firm Joby Aviation flew the first electric vertical takeoff and landing demonstration flights between two points in New York City on Friday and is continuing testing this week.

$JOBY COMPLETES 3,199-MILE AUTONOMOUS FLIGHT ACROSS THE U.S. WITH ZERO PILOT CONTROL INPUTS A converted Cessna Caravan using Joby’s autonomy system flew from California to North Carolina, handling taxi, takeoff, navigation and landing autonomously. The onboard safety pilot made no control inputs, while the aircraft was supervised remotely from as far as 2,323 miles away. During the trip, the system navigated busy Phoenix airspace and rerouted around severe weather in real time. Joby says the technology has now been tested across 400+ flights and 800 automated flight hours, including multiple U.S. military exercises.
