$MCD (McDonalds) vs. $QSR (Burger King)
Can you believe it? Wall Street is loving Burger King's turnaround story. Burger King U.S. same-store sales jumped 8.5%, way ahead of McDonald’s and the broader burger category (they say they beat the industry by over 9 points).
The Whopper relaunch has driven big volume gains (average unit volumes for the Whopper up over 20% since the new version launched), and they’re seeing better guest experience, more remodels, and improved operations.
Patrick Doyle (best known for the Domino’s turnaround) is currently the CEO and has been pushing this “fix the food and franchisee economics first” approach for a few years, and it’s starting to pay off.
Charts are showing that $MCD may be trying to find a low soon. They'll look to try and turnaround and drive their value-menu again as customers cannot afford to pay $13+ for a Big Mac.
$QSR is a breakout candidate for the future here thanks to Burger King.
