#WATCH# | Chandigarh | Punjab Minister Harpal Singh Cheema says, "After the Aam Aadmi Party government came to power in Punjab, we tightened the noose on those who were evading taxes. Under that, we have caught the biggest tax evasion to date. These people were perpetrating fraud in the transport sector by creating fake and forged bills. About 62 companies that were registered were involved in this. They had registrations in 62 places. When we investigated, this scam came to light. We have also taken strict action against it, sent the accused to jail, and we are recovering the dues. We will not let even a single penny of Punjab's treasury go to waste. In Punjab too, they had registrations at 25 places, and we have initiated action against them..."

#WATCH# | Chandigarh | Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Cheema says, "The whole country knows that today, drugs across the country are coming through the Gujarat border, and the entire Bharatiya Janata Party is involved in it and is drowning the youth of the entire country in drugs. First, they drown them in drugs, and then they do a drama that they will end drugs. The whole of Punjab knows that from 2007 to 2017, the Akali Dal and BJP government was in Punjab; during that time, Punjab was heavily drowned in drugs. Today, those who spread drugs are saying that they will end drugs. On the other hand, there is the Punjab CM, who has been working continuously for the last four years to end drugs in the state. Today, the drug menace in Punjab is almost finished."

My uncle in rural Punjab still calls the entire family together over landline conference call for anything even mildly significant, refusing every suggestion of a group chat despite owning a smartphone he clearly knows how to use for other things. "WhatsApp, chacha," my cousin pleaded, during yet another forty-minute call to announce a job promotion that could've been a single text. "Everyone's already online right now." "A message you can ignore," he said. "A voice you cannot skip past." I found this stubborn and mildly ridiculous until the week my grandfather's health took a sudden turn, and my uncle called every single relative himself, one by one, voice by voice, rather than let a single person find out through a screen. "Why not just send one message to everyone at once," I asked him afterward, genuinely curious now instead of annoyed. "Bad news travels faster on paper," he said. "I wanted people to hear my voice shake a little, if it was going to shake. Text doesn't shake. I needed them to know I meant it, not just typed it." My grandfather recovered, eventually, slowly. My uncle made the calls again to share that too, same method, same voice, this time steady and relieved instead of trembling. The family still has a group chat. It sits mostly unused for anything that matters. The big things still travel by phone call, uncle to cousin to aunt, voice to voice, exactly the way he insists they should.
