The Congress on Monday attacked PM Modi over rising prices, citing reports that electronic appliances such as LED TVs and washing machines are set to become costlier ahead of the festive season. The party said the impact of inflation is spreading beyond kitchen essentials and asked when the prime minister would address what it called the country’s most pressing concern. Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh shared a screenshot of a media report which said several electronic items, including LED TVs and washing machines, are likely to become more expensive from October 1. According to the report, companies are preparing to raise prices by 5 to 10 per cent because of higher raw material costs, including copper and aluminium. Israel on Sunday revoked the diplomatic status of Dutch diplomats representing the Netherlands with the Palestinian Authority in Ramallah, escalating tensions after the Netherlands imposed sanctions targeting Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank.
