DDR5 RAM prices are going up again. A US system builder says its supplier has announced another 10–15% price increase for DDR5 memory, with the new prices taking effect this week. This comes after months of already massive RAM price increases. 32GB DDR5 kits that once cost around €100 can now cost several times more. If you’re planning a PC upgrade, RAM prices probably aren’t going to get cheaper anytime soon.

PS6 RAM and SSD costs alone are reportedly over $680, according to a claim from leaker Kepler_L2. The post also claims Sony’s PS6 bill of materials has already climbed to almost $1,000. That would be before adding the CPU, GPU, cooling, motherboard, power supply, case, controller and other components. If those estimates are accurate, a $1,000+ retail price would be a very real possibility, especially if Sony wants to avoid selling the console at a loss.

DDR5 RAM is becoming a nightmare for PC builders. According to DataDome, 91% of the traffic hitting one retailer’s DDR5 product pages comes from scalper bots, meaning automated traffic outnumbers real shoppers by roughly 10 to 1. These scalper bots constantly check listings for new stock, with some operations hitting RAM pages every 6.5 seconds, DataDome previously identified one operation responsible for more than 10 million scraping requests. Retailers are responding with purchase limits and CPU/RAM bundles, while some companies have stopped selling RAM separately.

Chinese RAM is starting to catch up with the memory used in Western gaming PCs. Colorful has managed to run Chinese-made DDR5 at 9,000 MT/s, which is a very high speed for modern RAM. It can also achieve good latency, chinese memory has been tested at DDR5-6000 with CL28/CL30, similar to the low-latency RAM commonly used in gaming PCs. China’s biggest memory maker, CXMT, is also increasing production, and Chinese-made RAM is already appearing in some laptops.
