Reports suggest that layoffs have begun at ZeniMax Media, with studios such as Bethesda, id Software, Arkane, and MachineGames potentially affected.
Microsoft has not commented publicly, and the full scale of the cuts remains unknown.
George Broussard, co-founder of 3D Realms and Apogee, said on social media: “Getting word that layoffs at ZeniMax have begun.”
He added: “Heard rumblings recently that the cuts may be much deeper than you expect.”
Reports suggest that Bungie could face major layoffs this summer. According to French journalist Sylvain Trinel, as many as 50% of the studio’s employees, including full-time and contract workers, could be affected.
Bungie reportedly had around 800 employees after previous layoffs, so a 50% reduction would mean about 400 people losing their jobs.
The reported cuts are linked to the end of Destiny 2’s development and problems surrounding Marathon.
