She started uploading songs to SoundCloud at 13, writing and recording in her bedroom with no one paying attention. Gracie Abrams is the daughter of legendary director J.J. Abrams — the man behind Star Wars, Mission Impossible, and Lost. But for years, she built her own name from scratch, playing small shows and releasing music independently long before anyone connected the dots on whose daughter she was. By early 2024, the girl who once uploaded songs to SoundCloud alone in her room had a Best New Artist Grammy nomination — standing alongside artists like Ice Spice, Noah Kahan, and Jelly Roll. There’s a difference between optimism and delusion. If you’re saying, “I’m the best rapper,” but you’ve put out 50 songs and they have 19 listens on SoundCloud, you can’t just say, “The world doesn’t get me.” When met with facts, you must accept that.
