Richmond Fed President Tom Barkin explained how last week's decision to raise rates followed several developments this summer that made it hard to square a wait-it-out inflation posture with Chairman Kevin Warsh's vow to get inflation back to target. "If inflation's not going to come down relatively quickly, then you have to look in the mirror and say '...maybe we should do something about it.'" The full passage from his remarks at the Economic Club of Washington, D.C.: "The way I think about what happened is [Fed Chairman] Kevin [Warsh] took the job and he made a number of, I think, very profound calls. One of which is inflation's been high for whatever it was at the time, 62 months in a row, and we probably should do something about it. And if you had a conversation, and I had a conversation with a bunch of real estate people on this last night, you could argue two sides of that case. One side is, 'Yeah it's been high, but it's really being driven by oil prices, and tariffs, and the AI build out boom. A lot of these things are going to morph on the other side.' A good example of that would be gas prices, which if you go back to June had come down and were actually in the southern part of my district in the low 3s. And so you're like, 'OK, things are coming back to normal.' Well, what happened over the summer is I think it just got a lot clearer to me and maybe to others that this gas price thing that was going to endure for a while. We had this Canada tariff thing. The tariff thing's going to endure for a while. The AI build out, this costs—Apple and a bunch of the other chip enabled tech providers raise their prices. So that's going into cost. You could add, by the way, healthcare costs, transportation costs, diesel. There's a lot of things you could throw into the cost base. And so if inflation's not going to come down relatively quickly, then you have to look in the mirror and say, 'Inflation looks like it's been here for a while, so maybe we should do something about it.' I think that's what happened."

A big thank you to the Richmond RCMP and Metro Vancouver Transit Police for the work they do every day to help keep our community safe. Today, while walking near the Capstan Canada Line Station, I witnessed Richmond RCMP and Transit Police stop and arrest a suspect. I could see a significant number of brand-new tools, still in their boxes, spilling out of the vehicle. The stop unfolded in a challenging location, with officers working around lanes of oncoming traffic. It was a potentially dangerous situation for the officers, the individuals involved, and passing motorists, but police worked to bring the situation under control. Seeing situations like this firsthand is a reminder of the difficult and unpredictable circumstances our police officers face while serving Richmond. Conservative Richmond will continue to support the Richmond RCMP and advocate for the resources they need to do their jobs effectively. We will also work with the provincial and federal governments to address the major public-safety challenges affecting our community and ensure every level of government is doing its part. Richmond residents deserve to feel safe in their neighbourhoods, at our transit stations, in our parks, and throughout our city. Thank you to the Richmond RCMP and Metro Vancouver Transit Police officers who were out there doing their jobs today, and to all those who serve our community every day. Public safety matters. It’s time to bring back a strong sense of safety and security across Richmond. Alex Sagert Conservative Richmond Candidate for Richmond City Council @RichmondRCMP @TransitPoliceBC

Marginal Revolution co-creator @atabarrok says that AI replacing all jobs (which he doesn't think will happen) is a rich man's problem. "People are worried AI is going to do all the jobs. But this means we are going to be fabulously wealthy." "Even without any jobs, just being fabulously wealthy — we'll figure things out. This is the sort of problem you want to have." "This is not like a natural disaster, which destroys wealth. This is a tsunami which creates wealth." "Yes, it could be a tsunami in the sense that it's going to be very dramatic. But it's going to be very dramatic in the sense of like, Santa Claus coming and leaving us stuff under the Christmas tree. That's drama we can handle." "It won't be without problems. But problems where the pie gets bigger are problems we can solve." "It's problems when the pie gets smaller, when we are forced into a zero-sum society of one person versus another, that's when society breaks down." "But not when the pie is getting bigger. We'll figure out ways to make sure everyone gets a decent slice. We can solve the problem of dividing it up with everybody being happy. I'm much less worried about that." From his appearance on the show in May.

🚨DEAR GOD!!! Police BEGGED a liberal prosecutor IN WRITING to keep an ILLEGAL ALIEN with 40+ charges locked up... ...he walked ANYWAY then 9 MONTHS later he st*bbed a 41-year-old woman to DE*TH at a bus stop in Virginia. Meet Abdul Jalloh, 32. A Sierra Leone national who DHS says was in this country ILLEGALLY. DHS says he had been arrested MORE THAN 30 TIMES. 7News found MORE THAN 40 CHARGES in Fairfax County alone… ranging from R*PE to ASSAULT. In almost EVERY SINGLE CASE, Commonwealth's Attorney Steve Descano's office DROPPED THEM. 2018: R*pe — DROPPED 2023: Malicious wounding — DROPPED 2024: Malicious wounding — DROPPED 2024: Steal property from a person — DROPPED A Fairfax police bond alert said he had over 100 INVOLVEMENTS with the department. In May 2025, Fairfax County police emailed Descano's office and BEGGED THEM TO KEEP HIM LOCKED UP. He walked ANWAY. POLICE WERE LITERALLY WARNING PROSECUTORS THAT THEY BELIEVED THIS MAN WAS GOING TO SERIOUSLY HURT SOMEONE AGAIN. Just a few months later… ...on February 23, 2026, Stephanie Minter stepped off a bus on Richmond Highway. Police say Jalloh stepped off that same bus with her. She was found in the bus shelter with multiple st*b wounds to her upper body. She passed away right there. Fairfax County's own POLICE CHIEF, Kevin Davis, says her m*rder was "entirely preventable." And it wasn't just the county. ICE says it held Jalloh for 702 days back in 2018… then had to release him after a judge ruled he couldn't be sent back to Sierra Leone. EVERY LEVEL had a shot at this man. Now Cheryl Minter, Stephanie's mom, has filed a RECALL PETITION AGAINST THE PROSECUTOR!!!!! She says she found out AFTER burying her daughter that police had been warning this office about him for months. Her petition reads: "Thirty times the system had a chance to stop him, and then let him go." WE DO NOT HAVE TO LIVE LIKE THIS!!!!
