The latest Pallas Data poll shows Conservative Richmond at 18%, compared with 7% for the next closest party. We’re not interested in pretending to listen to Richmond for the camera. 24 years ago today, I was 12 years old. I still remember when we lost Cst. Jimmy Ng. Growing up in Richmond, his death was one of those moments that felt bigger than just the news. It sent a shock wave through the community. You could feel the sadness, the disbelief, and the sense that someone who had dedicated his life to serving our community had been taken far too soon. Jimmy grew up in Richmond and returned home to serve as an RCMP officer. His loss stayed with the community for years, and it’s meaningful to see that his name continues to be remembered today. A big thank you to the Richmond RCMP and Metro Vancouver Transit Police for the work they do every day to help keep our community safe. Today, while walking near the Capstan Canada Line Station, I witnessed Richmond RCMP and Transit Police stop and arrest a suspect. I could see a significant number of brand-new tools, still in their boxes, spilling out of the vehicle. The stop unfolded in a challenging location, with officers working around lanes of oncoming traffic. It was a potentially dangerous situation for the officers, the individuals involved, and passing motorists, but police worked to bring the situation under control. Seeing situations like this firsthand is a reminder of the difficult and unpredictable circumstances our police officers face while serving Richmond. Conservative Richmond will continue to support the Richmond RCMP and advocate for the resources they need to do their jobs effectively. We will also work with the provincial and federal governments to address the major public-safety challenges affecting our community and ensure every level of government is doing its part. Richmond residents deserve to feel safe in their neighbourhoods, at our transit stations, in our parks, and throughout our city. This raises even more serious questions about what was happening inside Richmond City Hall. We now have a former employee alleging there was an “ad hoc” policy for distributing gift cards, while the City alleges serious misconduct. Meanwhile, approximately $295,000 in gift cards were left unreconciled, a forensic audit was launched, and the matter was referred to the RCMP. These competing allegations will ultimately have to be tested through the legal process. But Richmond taxpayers shouldn't have to wait for a courtroom to get answers about the City's internal controls. How was a system involving hundreds of thousands of dollars in gift cards allowed to operate without proper reconciliation and oversight? Richmond residents deserve transparency, accountability and a full explanation of how this happened, and what is being done to ensure it can never happen again.

RICHMOND TAXPAYERS DESERVE ANSWERS Nearly $295,000 in City gift-card costs remained unreconciled, and it took Global News,not City Council to expose the issue. Kash Heed and Alexa Loo both served on Richmond’s Finance Committee during 2023 and 2024. Richmond residents deserve to know: Who knew what, when did they know it, and what did they do about it? Public service is supposed to be about serving the public, not yourself. If the goal is ultimately to defeat the NDP and give British Columbia a better government, how exactly are we supposed to get there when every time someone gets upset, they leave and start another party?

The minister has now openly confirmed what the NDP tried to keep quiet. Public access to 30 properties, including Hatley Castle and Discovery Island Marine Provincial Park, could be restricted or lost entirely under the Te’mexw treaty. These are public lands that belong to all British Columbians. Once they become treaty lands, the government itself admits there is no guarantee the public will still be able to use them. Historic sites, parks, and even land near the Legislature are on the table, and ordinary people are only finding out after the fact. This is the NDP’s radical land-back agenda in action: large-scale transfers of Crown assets with almost no public consultation and zero meaningful democratic oversight. They are treating the owners of this province, the public, as an inconvenience. The NDP must stop these transfers now. British Columbians will not accept the quiet handover of public parks and heritage sites without a real say.

These Richmond City Councillors have voted for more drugs again, and again, and again. Aster Place. Alderbridge. Brighouse Park Shelter. A drug consumption site at Richmond General Hospital. The radical NDP-style drug policies in Richmond have to stop. If you want change, you have to Vote Conservative for Mayor & Council in Richmond. Yet the encampments are growing, fires keep breaking out, and now one has been declared a hazardous site above a jet fuel pipeline.
