The Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) made their mark at the recent Australian Rover Challenge at 📍 Adelaide University, SA. 🤖 A triservice team of nine ADFA Trainee Officers and five civilian students from the University of New South Wales, Canberra, worked together as part of the Robotics and Autonomous Systems (RAS) team, improving on last year’s efforts to place fourth overall this year. The Australian Rover Challenge is an international semi-autonomous robotics competition, where teams design and build a rover under 60kg to be operated remotely in simulated lunar operations. Ship ➡️ shore In 📍 northern Queensland, the @AustralianArmy's 10th Fires Brigade’s high mobility artillery rocket system (HIMARS) took to the beach with the help of HMAS Choules. Having earlier exceeded expectations by firing various missile types ahead of schedule, and at distances new to Army, attention has turned to the deployability of HIMARS on aircraft and ships to extend the ADF’s ability to defend Australia’s northern approaches. The platform has been certified to deploy on @AusAirForce C-130 and C-17 aircraft and on board the @Australian_Navy’s landing helicopter docks (LHDs). Soldiers fire up new skills on Balikatan In preparation for a live-fire serial during Exercise Balikatan, Australian gunners embedded with a United States high mobility artillery rocket system (HIMARS) battery exchanged lessons on tropical maintenance, launch preparation and turning sensor data into firing solutions. As observers to the live-fire, the Australian team gained insights into how targets were detected, tracked and engaged.
