Hearing Paulo talk about the software he built for his fencing business is inspiring. He's more knowledgeable, more passionate, and more excited about the product than almost any software founder I know. The difference is that he never set out to build a software company, sell it to customers, or to PE. He built software to solve the problems he lives every day. That's what makes this new era of AI so interesting. The people closest to the problem can finally build the solution. And we are going to keep enabling them.

This is why we can’t have nice things! 🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪 The National Park Service (NPS) is installing or has recently installed fencing around the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington, D.C. This is tied to the pool’s high-profile 2026 renovation (including a blue liner/coating for America’s 250th anniversary), which has faced ongoing issues like algae blooms, peeling, and reported vandalism/tampering. Current Status (as of June 23–24, 2026) • Workers are putting up temporary chain-link fencing to secure the site during further repairs, cleaning (e.g., hydrogen peroxide and nanobubble treatments), and to limit public access/tampering.

I have a (rapidly) growing conviction that "best practices" in software are just artifacts of product limitations. We called them best practices because software couldn't adapt to all the bespoke feature requests. AI removes that constraint, and it's the single biggest impact AI will have on the industry. All software will become malleable. It will bend around your business rather than you trying to figure out how to fit your business into the software. Paulo didn't change his fencing business to fit the software he was using... he changed the software to fit his business. IMO this is as significant a platform shift as the move from on-prem to SaaS.
