Founder at MIT Cryptoeconomics Lab, @ccatalini, on Tokenized with cohosts ⁣@sytaylor and @cuysheffield said the real test for OpenUSD isn't the crypto-forward fintechs, it's whether a G-SIB walks away from its own stablecoin plans to use it instead.⁣ ⁣ "I don't doubt that even given the initial set of partners, OpenUSD can do really well in the forward looking fintechs that are building wallets, new infrastructure and products and services."⁣ ⁣ "Can OpenUSD essentially convince them that, like, why bother? This is already the right structure."⁣ ⁣ "Is it neutral enough? Or do you worry about the influence of Stripe or Coinbase or Mastercard and Visa in the mix."⁣ ⁣ "This consortium can get together effectively and ship wonderful product experiences, people will gravitate towards it, and the economic design is the right one."⁣ ⁣ "It's very similar to what we had in Libra. A few months into the process, there were already discussions between different members that have conflicting incentives."⁣ ⁣ "That would be ultimate victory for this standard if you can convince banks to peel off and start using it."⁣ ⁣ At least one effort with 21 or more institutions is already trying to build a bank-owned alternative.⁣ ⁣ 🎙 Listen to the latest episode on Tokenizedpod(dot)com

Founder, @MIT Cryptoeconomics Lab, @ccatalini on Tokenized with cohosts @sytaylor and @cuysheffield said that OpenUSD has two very different paths to success, and the tension between them hasn't surfaced yet.⁣ ⁣ "One is it becomes kind of a Linux foundation for open standards around money movement, and the asset is kind of the forcing function for standards on merchant payments, on delivery versus payment."⁣ ⁣ "The other one is probably the most ambitious one, which is it becomes like a Visa like entity that many years after, it's its own very profitable business, its own network."⁣ ⁣ "I could imagine some funding members would prefer one or the other depending on where they sit in the stack, and I think that's the ultimate tension that at some point will materialize."⁣ ⁣ "Maybe it doesn't matter. Right? So maybe if you bring use cases to market early on, you get adoption, and then the thing solves itself."⁣ ⁣ A neutral standard and a profitable network pull in opposite directions, and early adoption may decide which one wins before the members do.⁣ ⁣ 🎙 Listen to the latest episode on Tokenizedpod(dot)com

Founder, @MIT Cryptoeconomics Lab, @ccatalini on the latest episode of Tokenized said banks that send their data to closed frontier AI models are giving away the thing that makes them valuable in the first place.⁣ ⁣ "I think it's gonna be almost ridiculous a year from now or two years from now for any fintech or bank executive to send their traces back to a closed frontier model."⁣ ⁣ "They're essentially a finance verification factory. They can get information in, better measurement in, and they're gonna manufacture better tokens out of that process."⁣ ⁣ "If you don't own those traces, if you don't own your weights, if you're not running on a model that maybe is like an open weights model plus your proprietary context, you're essentially slowly sending your secret sauce away to someone else."⁣ ⁣ "Imagine a world where you're essentially just a dumb pipe, the holder of licenses, and all the value is created at the chat GPT level or at the cloud level. I think that's not the future banks want."⁣ ⁣ Whoever controls the agent that recommends which account to open controls the customer relationship, licence or not.⁣ ⁣ 🎙 Listen to the latest episode on Tokenizedpod(dot)com by hosts @sytaylor and @cuysheffield

Founder of Agora Finance, @Nick_van_Eck on Tokenized said that round the clock trading doesn't mean round the clock pricing, and ETF buyers could end up paying for that gap.⁣ ⁣ "If you can only have the APs create and redeem during traditional banking hours, you may have really large deviations from the NAV."⁣ ⁣ "You as a buyer might actually be getting a really bad price by trading on the weekend or trading at night because some of these other things behind the scenes are still relying on the legacy system."⁣ ⁣ "All those people need to get up to date to really have efficient twenty four seven markets, which is going to take a very long time."⁣ ⁣ "There's definitely gonna be periods of thin liquidity like at night or on the weekends."⁣ ⁣ Creation and redemption still run on banking hours even when the index runs on none, so the NAV gap shows up exactly when liquidity is thinnest.⁣ ⁣ 🎙 Listen to the latest episode on Tokenizedpod(dot)com

Founder of @withAUSD, @Nick_van_Eck on why enterprises won’t rely on one stablecoin provider with hosts @sytaylor and @cuysheffield : ⁣ ⁣ "I think what we're seeing for the most part is people want simplicity."⁣ ⁣ "If you are a large enterprise though, you may want redundancy."⁣ ⁣ "It's like how every company has more than one bank account just for redundancy sake."⁣ ⁣ "I think there's gonna be a large part of the market that wants that one stop shop, but there will absolutely be more complex use cases or localized use cases where they may want different providers."⁣ ⁣ Infrastructure providers will have to serve both ends at once, a simple default stack for most firms and a redundant, multi-provider setup for the largest ones.⁣ ⁣ 🎙 Listen to the latest episode on Tokenizedpod(dot)com
