Albania Records Historic Religious Shift For the first time in nearly 200 years, Muslims are no longer the majority in Albania. The 2023 census puts them at 45.9%, down from 56.7% in 2011. Christians were recorded at around 16%, though the Orthodox Church disputes this and says the real number is over 24%. From St. Paul in Illyricum to Skanderbeg’s defense of Christendom, to Hoxha’s atheist state — Albania’s faith has survived centuries of change.
