Dark romance is fiction. Abuse is not. Somewhere along the way, we've started blurring the line between fantasy and behaviors that leave real people traumatized. Rape isn't romantic. Sexual assault isn't passion. Stalking isn't devotion. Coercion isn't chemistry. Abuse isn't love. These aren't signs of a deep connection. They're violations of trust, autonomy, and basic human dignity. People are free to enjoy fictional stories and explore difficult themes in books, but we shouldn't lose sight of reality in the process. What may be entertaining on a page can be devastating in real life. A healthy relationship is built on mutual respect, consent, trust, and genuine care for one another. The more we romanticize harmful behavior, the easier it becomes to overlook warning signs when they appear in the real world. Some things should remain clearly defined for what they are. Love and abuse are not the same thing. Passion and violence are not the same thing. Desire and coercion are not the same thing. That distinction matters.
