First test of the new #Starlink# V5 in Kyiv, Ukraine, compared against the Starlink Mini. Mixed results so far. Hardware & Setup: V5: rev5_pez_prod2 (Firmware: 2026.08.05.mr83926) — Ethernet direct to test PC, no router. Mini: mini1_prod2 (Firmware: 2026.08.10.cr84226) — Ethernet to test PC, built-in router active. Conditions: Light clouds, clear view of the sky. Results: Speeds: The V5 hit slightly higher peak upload speeds but experienced more speed drops, significantly dragging down the median. Overall speed consistency goes to the Mini. Latency: The Mini clearly outperformed the V5 in ICMP tests, with lower latency and jitter. Retesting tomorrow; hopefully the V5 picks up the latest 08.10 firmware update to see if it makes a difference.

Kyiv is under ballistic attack. I was in the middle of testing the Starlink V5 and filming in an open parking lot when the attack started. This is what it looked and felt like from the front row… Ballistic missiles are fast. After the first round of explosions, I ran to a nearby basement (about 200 meters) before the next explosion. I guess that’s it for testing today. I did manage to collect the data, though, and I’ll share the results later.
