You know things will get pretty crazy when Elon Musk says he would be disappointed if SpaceX only achieved ~30–40 GW of compute by 2030. That would be an average of ~6–8 GW of new compute every year for five years, Elon is pushing for more.

School buses need to be Electric. It should be a priority. Over ~26 Million students are transported by Diesel School buses everyday in North America. Diesel exhaust is classified as a known human carcinogen. If anyone has ridden in one, they know these fumes don’t just emit out of the tailpipe, they linger inside the bus as well. It has that distinct smell. Plus these buses are always idling and polluting the surroundings of children outside. Keep in mind that children inhale 50% more air per body weight than adults. Long-term effects are linked to impacts on brain development, reduced academic performance, and even developmental delays. Switching to EV removes that exposure entirely. The buses won’t emit any fumes, they can be autonomous and safer, as well as save the cities and schools a ton of money in maintenance costs as an added benefit. Every time I see one on the road emitting fumes think of this stuff. I hope this future comes quickly.

Looking back, as usual, Elon Musk was really onto something when he said phones will become AI handsets. Elon last year on JRE on where phones are headed: “I can tell you where I think things are going to go, which is that we’re not going to have a phone in the traditional sense. What we call a phone will really be an edge node for AI inference, for AI video inference, with some radios to obviously connect. But essentially you’ll have AI on the server side communicating to an AI on your device, formerly known as a phone, and generating real-time video of anything that you could possibly want. And I think that there won’t be operating systems. There won’t be apps in the future. It’ll just be..you’ve got a device that is there for the screen and audio, and to put as much AI on the device as possible so as to minimize the amount of bandwidth that’s needed between your edge node device, formerly known as a phone, and the servers.” I have a feeling this is really where things are going soon

In what world in Optimus’ future in question? 😂 • Tesla is in the process of building its 10M/yr Optimus factory at Giga Texas • Tesla has hundreds of job openings surrounding Optimus • Fremont S/X lines have been converted, target 1,000/units by EOY. • Tesla AI5 chip production, which is mostly for Optimus first. • Cortex 2 data center on Giga Texas campus is the brain of Optimus. 500MW. • Terafab has broken ground, guess what those chips are for? lol Building out the most important product in history takes time.

Production @Tesla Semi. The one so called “experts” said was impossible: • Travels 500+ real-world miles fully loaded (82K lbs), and about 600 miles half loaded. • 1.7 kWh/mile efficiency. ~7x less efficient than a Model Y despite being ~20x heavier (loaded). • Does 0-60 mph in 12.5 seconds. 24 seconds fully loaded. • The first Tesla with a power-coated exterior. • The drive unit is based on the Plaid motor (from S/X), but the carbon fiber sleeved rotor has been swapped for a steel-caged rotor. It makes it cheaper, lighter, more efficient, and more reliable. Total output is 1,073 hp. • The gearbox and motor share the same oil. Semi can last onwards of 250K+ miles without a fluid change vs 30-50K miles traditionally with diesel. • Semi uses fully electric power steering (there’s still a physical connection), it’s said to feel like a sports car rather than a typical semi. • Semi's thermal system was designed together with Cybercab. It shares the same pumps, compressor, and heat exchangers, and the Semi just has a bigger radiator. • Just like other Teslas, the driver profile carries over settings, seating positions, media, etc. All through their phone. Such a beast.

The @Tesla Semi platform could allow for many different variants in the future. This way, everything can become electronic and autonomous: • Buses • RVs • Firetrucks • Garbage trucks • Dump trucks I hope this happens one day.

Elon Musk and JB Straubel’s original efficiency target for the Tesla Semi was 2.0 kWh/mile, and even then people said it was impossible. The production Semi gets 1.7 kWh/mile loaded* which is about 15% better than the original target. Experts WHO?

When I talked to Gates in person, he said “experts tell me a long range electric semi truck is impossible”. However, when I asked what his assumptions were about battery energy density and vehicle energy consumption per mile, which are the two numbers needed to determine range, he did not know either number! I also offered to let him take one of our semi trucks for independent testing, but he declined. Not sure what more I could have done. 🤷‍♂️

Nevoya, Einride, OK Produce, DHL, WattEV, US Foods, PepsiCo, HMD, IMC, ABF, all taking delivery of their new @Tesla Semi trucks. They said it couldn’t be done. Can’t wait to see these everywhere soon.
