Violet Jessop was born in Argentina in 1887 to Irish immigrant parents and moved to Britain as a teenager after her father passed away. To help support her family, she became an ocean liner stewardess, working for the White Star Line during the golden age of transatlantic travel. In just five years she experienced three major maritime disasters: the collision of RMS Olympic in 1911, the sinking of RMS Titanic in 1912, and the sinking of HMHS Britannic in 1916, which had been converted into a hospital ship during WW1. Despite surviving all three, she returned to sea after the war and spent more than four decades working aboard passenger ships before retiring in 1950. She later wrote a memoir describing her career, becoming known as "Miss Unsinkable." #archaeohistories#
