xAI and SpaceXAI have just made Colossus 1 available to Anthropic to support Claude. This means more than 220,000 NVIDIA GPUs in one of the world’s largest and fastest-built AI superclusters are now helping to improve Claude’s user experience, code limits, and API capacity. xAI and Anthropic are also discussing plans for several gigawatts of AI computing power in orbit. Solar-powered data centers in space could be coming soon. Elon said he personally met with the Anthropic team last week.“Everyone I met was highly competent and cared a great deal about doing the right thing. No one set off my evil detector.” He approved the lease of Colossus 1 to them. xAI has already shifted its own training to Colossus 2, so the cluster would have been sitting idle. Now it’s being put to good use powering more Claude capacity. Space is becoming the next frontier for data centers.

xAI is committed to building a state-of-the-art water recycling plant in Memphis. This plant will protect billions of gallons of water each year. The team is currently prioritizing other more immediate projects at the site but our plans to build the water plant have not changed.

SpaceX/xAI has just announced that it has signed an agreement with Anthropic to provide access to its Colossus 1 supercomputer. "Anthropic plans to use this additional compute to directly improve capacity for Claude Pro and Claude Max subscribers. As part of this agreement, Anthropic also expressed interest in partnering to develop multiple gigawatts of orbital AI compute capacity. The compute required to train and operate the next generation of these systems is outpacing what terrestrial power, land, and cooling can deliver on the timelines that matter. Built from the ground up in record time, Colossus delivers unprecedented scale for AI training, fine-tuning, inference, and high-performance computing workloads. Colossus 1 features over 220,000 NVIDIA GPUs, including dense deployments of H100, H200, and next-generation GB200 accelerators. The cluster delivers extreme parallel performance for large language models, multimodal systems, scientific simulations, and generative AI at frontier scale. SpaceX is the only organization with the launch cadence, mass-to-orbit economics, and constellation operations experience to make orbital compute a near-term engineering program rather than a research concept. If engineering challenges can be overcome, space-based compute offers near-limitless sustainable power with less impact on Earth." I think this is smart for SpaceX/xAI, as it seems to have some excess capacity as Colossus, so why not make a some money on the side by renting that compute capacity out. I think we'll see some more similar partnerships soon.

NEWS: xAI has launched a "Custom Voices" feature that allows users to clone a voice from a 120-second audio sample, enabling the creation of usable voice clones for use across the company's text-to-speech and voice agent APIs. The feature includes several key capabilities: Voice Cloning: Users can create a custom voice from a single reference clip up to 120 seconds long. Security: A two-step verification process uses a passphrase and voice characteristic comparison to prevent unauthorized cloning. Integration: Cloned voices can be used across all voice APIs, including the "Grok Voice Think Fast 1.0" model used for Starlink support. Voice Library: The xAI console includes over 80 preinstalled voices across 28 languages. The feature is currently available in the United States, with the exception of Illinois.
