This might be my favorite BYU football story in a long time. Coach Kalani Sitake was born in Nuku'alofa, Tonga, and his family moved to Hawaii when he was a baby. This summer he went back for the first time. He took his dad, his family, and a group of about 50 from BYU, including players and coaches. The family paid respects to a grandmother whose faith brought the family into the gospel. You can feel how much that trip meant to every one of them. One of the grandkids remembers Grandpa drawing a map of Tonga for them. When the plane landed, there was that same map out the window. But this was not just a family trip. Kalani wanted to give back to the island. Through the We Are One Foundation, they opened an employment center in Nuku'alofa that connects BYU Pathway Worldwide students in Tonga with remote jobs. Education plus real jobs, so people can build a future without leaving their families and their island. I know how much technology can open doors. I type with my brain through Neuralink, and remote work and online tools let me keep building things. This is what BYU and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are all about to me. Huge respect to @kalanifsitake and the whole Sitake family. Thank you @BYUSportsNation for telling this story. Go Cougs @BYUfootball! Watch it here. It is 9 minutes well spent:
