Another thing I’m learning from this BIP 110 situation is that we’ve done a terrible job teaching people what it means to run a node: Running a node is not some benevolent service you do for the network. It is a self-interested act to “don’t trust, verify” the blockchain. Bitcoin’s genius is that it aligns incentives so that nodes reach consensus on the history and next block. As a Bitcoin user, I literally DGAF whether you run a node or not. As a Bitcoin educator, however, I encourage you to run a node because that way you don’t rely on a trusted 3rd party to send/receive transactions. Is it good for Bitcoin’s decentralization that more people run nodes? Of course. Does Bitcoin need you to run a node in order to function? No. So when BIP 110ers threaten they’re gonna stop running a node, I see it as if a fellow refugee in a life raft is threatening to pop his own life vest. I think it’s a dumb move, and I prefer you dont hurt yourself, but I am personally unaffected by your decision. Hope that helps you understand the “game theory” you keep saying is about to kick in at any moment!
