Abdul El-Sayed on Meet the Press: 9/11 Comments Are Just “Dumb Things Said Out of Context” Michigan Democrat Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed sat down with NBC’s Meet the Press today and addressed questions about his campaign associations and policy plans. On Hasan Piker — who has previously said “America deserved 9/11” and has been involved with the campaign — El-Sayed downplayed the remark as just some “dumb thing somebody said out of context.” When asked if he planned to continue campaigning with him, he replied: “I’m less concerned now with who I’m campaigning with… I’m a lot more focused on who I’m campaigning to.” On his push for government-run healthcare, El-Sayed acknowledged the cost: Americans would “pay a little bit more in taxes.” He also offered this view of the current system: “I understand right now, though, that we don’t live under capitalism…” In short: He dismissed the 9/11 comment as no big deal, confirmed higher taxes for his healthcare plan, and said America doesn’t currently operate under capitalism. This is exactly the kind of candidate the Democrat Party should be moving away from.
