A public speaker told the Los Angeles City Council on Aug. 11 that taxpayers should fund “sexual relief clinics” for the homeless. That speaker is not in this video. The proposal itself is not compassion. It is a city so lost it treats addiction, street living, and public disorder as a lifestyle that now needs a taxpayer-built bedroom. Los Angeles City Councilmember Traci Park, who represents the Westside including Venice, is the one speaking here. She was right to kill the proposal on the spot. “No, we’re not doing public sex huts.” The fact that sentence had to be said out loud tells you everything. Help people get off drugs. Help them work. Help them get a door that locks because they earned a life again. Do not spend public money building them a place to have sex on Skid Row and call it equality. A functioning city gets people housed and employed. A failing city workshops their symptoms and sends the bill to everyone else. Los Angeles has already spent billions and still has more than 45,000 people homeless in the city. Another grotesque pilot program will not fix that. Work, sobriety, and order will.
