Yes, that would suck, but that is not the case. SpaceX is currently pushing starship beyond its planned operational expectancy.
They are doing this to test the upper limits of the structural rigidity of the ship, as well as the heat shields ability to withstand anomalies.
Normal flights should have normal to no damage to the heatshield in comparison to the test flights with extra stress on the spacecraft
No one is going to let their $40,000+ car get damaged over a self-driving streak.
Calm down.
The streak is to motivate people not to take over for non-critical reasons.
Anyone, and everyone should 100% take over for critical reasons. That is the point. To find those critical reasons, segment them, train on them and execute a safer FSD model for all of humanity.
