The Vatican said this evening that the Pope’s condition “continues to be critical” and this morning he had a long “asthmatic respiratory crisis” requiring “high flows of oxygen.” Blood tests showed a condition associated with anemia and so resulted in blood transfusions. “The Holy Father continues to be alert and spent the day in an armchair although in more pain than yesterday. At the moment the prognosis is reserved.”
