Cato Corporation, which operates more than 1,000 Cato Fashions stores across 31 states, says it is more than doubling its originally planned closures from 50 locations to 120 by the end of the fiscal year. The company says pressure on shoppers’ discretionary income has made it unlikely that struggling locations will improve, while quarterly net income recently fell from $6.8 million a year ago to $1.1 million.
