It's a Jaguar so it's South America so it's a Caiman, not an alligator. Jaguars love the water and are incredibly strong.
Their bite can either penetrate into the brain or sever the spinal cord. They don't go for the throat they go straight for the brain, piercing through the skull.
Out of all the big cats, they are the most used to hunting in water and have one trick up their sleeve that their fellow Panthera brethren have yet to master: a bone-cracking bite to the back of the skull, which automatically paralyzes their crocodilian prey.
