I woke up this morning and the first thought in my mind was, “It’s officially been a year.” For the past year, my phone has constantly shown me “one year ago today” memories with Charlie. A flight we were on. A campus or church we were at. A conversation we had. A hilarious moment I’d forgotten about. Funny videos. So many memories. Almost every day, there was another reminder of where we were and what we were doing together exactly one year before. But this morning… I realized I won’t have those anymore. There is no longer going to be a “one year ago today” with Charlie waiting for me tomorrow. It’s officially been a year. This realization hit me so unbelievably hard. My heart is broken. For the last 365 days, those memories have felt like little windows back into a life that somehow still felt close enough to touch. Now the calendar keeps moving, even though part of me so wishes it wouldn’t. I’m longing for and looking to the reunion of eternity with our Savior. Where nothing, not even time, can ever separate again. I’m incredibly grateful for every photo, every video, every text, every trip, every ordinary moment I didn’t know at the time would become something I clung to and treasured so deeply. I miss my friend. I miss him so beyond explanation. Today, more than anything, I’m just so grateful to God I got to know him.
