Captain John Paul Jones – a hero of the Revolutionary War and "Father of the U.S. Navy – was born #OTD# in 1747. Jones was honored with a memorial on the National Mall in 1912. A striking bronze statue by artist Charles Niehaus stands in front of a tall marble pylon with water fountains on both sides. #WashingtonDC# #Freedom250#
