The sun is four million tons lighter than it was one second ago, and nothing took the mass. It is not on fire: a coal sun this bright would go dark in a few thousand years. In the core, hydrogen is pressed into helium, and the helium comes out weighing slightly less. That missing sliver is the four million tons.
