People are wrong to compare the Sonam Wangchuk Hunger Strike with Anna Hazare. The correct comparison is Irom Sharmila. It's always going to be Irom Sharmila. Irom Sharmila was on a hunger strike for 16 years demanding the repeal of AFSPA in Manipur. Be it the NDA Government or UPA, nobody heeded her demands. They force-fed her and kept her alive. Ultimately, she decided to end her hunger strike in 2016. She announced that she will contest elections and continue to fight democratically. She lost her deposit in the polls. She won 90 votes. 90. 9-0. She was heartbroken and decided to end her political career and activism. She married her long-term partner and now lives a quiet life. She is a mother to twin daughters. She stays completely out of the public eye. She is, presumably, happier than she ever been.
