A Chinese developer filmed a tour of his office. There is one job opening, pinned to the wall by the door. Build the AI agent that does a developer's job. Whoever takes it will be the last developer this company ever hires. While the West argues about whether AI is coming for coding jobs, China is already posting them with an expiry date. Roles whose entire purpose is to build the thing that deletes the role. You apply, you train your replacement, you ship it, you clear your desk. They were filming the future of work. They just showed too much of their own. Pause at 0:24. Two of them are at a desk, leaning over a laptop. Ignore the laptop. Look at the monitor on the right. That is their own commit dashboard. The name at the top is not a person. It is the agent, a coding agent they wired together on Claude. It has merged more code this month than the entire human team under it, combined, twice over. The desks behind them are not empty because it is late. The comment section turned into a detective board. Someone slowed the clip to 0.25x and read the dashboard frame by frame. One non human username at the top. The human names far below it. Half the floor already cleared. The same agent name sitting as the reviewer on the humans' pull requests, not the other way around. The opening by the door is not aspirational. The agent it describes is already in the room. It is already the best engineer in the building, and it was built by the people it replaced. They built an agent to retire developers at other companies. It retired most of their own first. The four still on the floor are the ones who film well and pitch on stage. None of them push code anymore. They are not hiring a developer. They are hiring the last one. The replacement is already at the top of the board, reviewing his pull requests before he has written a line.
