One number in the polar equation flips a circle into petals or layered loops. Rose curves follow r = cos(nθ). Odd integers give n petals; even integers give 2n. Reduced fractions n = p/q close after finite turns, with p petals if both odd, 2p otherwise. Cathedral builders used matching petal symmetries for the stone tracery of Gothic rose windows.
