i understand where the โjust donate to charityโ people are coming from, i do โฆ but my view on this is different
the reality is that, through charity coins, charitable orgs will raise more money than they would otherwise, as many of the same people who canโt afford to straight-up โdonateโ are indeed willing to take a financial risk in the name of charity if it means that they have at least a chance to get something back from it
for most, itโs not that they wouldnโt donate to charity if they could โ itโs that they literally cannot afford to just give their money away (despite being good-hearted people)
these charity coins have โ in a single day โ done tens of millions of dollars in volume โฆ thatโs tens of millions of dollars that people were (are) willing to risk in the name of charity with the possibility of making something back that they likely would not simply โdonateโ without any possibility of return
bottom line: many of the good-hearted people in this world cannot afford to donate their money to charity โ they donโt have the disposable income to do that without any chance of return โฆ but many of those same people will absolutely take a financial risk (with potential reward) in the name of charity
no matter what way you look at it, this simply results in more money going to charity than would otherwise
imo, people are mid-curving the charity tokens narrative for now, partially because it is trendy to hate on pumpfun recently
for the first time, directly through pumpfun, these tokens are verifiably redirecting fees to charitable organizations through legitimate off-ramps
if these coins can sustain volume, the donation โreceiptsโ (verifiable, legitimate โ no shady middle-man) should, in theory, fuel the narrative, bringing yet more volume; resulting in even greater donations, compounding the positive impact made by โmemecoins,โ further fueling the narrative surrounding that impact
most participants simply want charts to trade โ they care more about the chart than the narrative โฆ if these coins can print good-looking charts, and bring volume to them, i think it is greatly +EV to trade them vs. charts that most often end up purely extractive
personally, iโve always thought that this sort of narrative has the potential to change the memecoin industry forever โ it just hasnโt been done right
iโm not sure if this is them doing it โright,โ but until we see how this develops, we canโt know โฆ but for now, iโm thinking this narrative is being mid-curved by most
then again, i am someone who has been a fan of this narrative for a long time, so perhaps i am biased
time shall tell!
