❗️@Google's top privacy and security executives are warning that EU plans to require the company to open up its Search data and Android system to rivals could backfire on users. If the Android changes are implemented as currently proposed, #Google# says it expects fraud across the EU to increase, possibly within weeks of the rollout. On the Search side, the company argues that the anonymization techniques outlined in the EU's plan have "deep weaknesses," claiming its own privacy engineers found the search data could be easily reidentified, while the company's red team cracked it in under two hours. Google also says that smaller European startups receiving this data could become prime targets for hackers, as the company would have no way to secure the data once it leaves its control. @EU_Commission is expected to finalize its decision under the Digital Markets Act, first adopted in late 2022, by July 27.
