The U.S. Treasury Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC) has sanctioned 17 more tankers tied to Iran’s shadow fleet, the network of older vessels that move sanctioned Iranian oil and petrochemicals to foreign buyers. Treasury says the action “effectively neutralizes the vast majority” of Iran’s remaining shadow fleet. It did not say how many vessels are left, and it acknowledged the network is fluid, with ships routinely entering and exiting. The vessels are under 13 petroleum and 5 petrochemical designations tied to their owners and managers, registered across more than a dozen jurisdictions. Treasury says they carried crude, naphtha, LPG, fuel oil, bitumen, methanol and ammonia to markets in South and East Asia. Examples it cites: -SHENZHEN: over 3.5 million barrels of crude since November 2025 -STARWAY: over 3 million barrels of naphtha since 2025 -KANHA: over 3 million barrels of fuel oil since 2021 Treasury also removed two container ships, HAKUNA MATATA and PINOCCHIO, from its sanctions list, saying they left the shadow fleet and were sold to non sanctioned, U.S. aligned operators. Treasury credits the U.S. naval blockade and says Iranian shipments outside it are dwindling. CENTCOM said Monday it has destroyed 13 commercial vessels in 12 weeks, some tied to an IRGC “shadow network.” Source:
