i suspect that, like in many fields, mathematicians are not going to be happy with their biggest problems being solved by AI in the coming years. instead, they will rage against it. that will, in turn, make many amongst the general public easy to convince that something bad is happening, some malpractice of sorts which couldn’t be further from the truth. but instead the labs/agents making such discoveries, especially if mostly unassisted by humans, will be seen as malign…for solving math problems. ego is an incredible thing. do not for a second believe your noble academics are free of it. i suspect they will be particularly driven by it. and this will lead to evermore incorrect assumptions about what is happening. you will be quick to make the AI lab a villain bc your academic betters get angry that their pet problems are being solved by ai agents. and this will only accelerate, and will happen in all fields, i bet. things are getting weird.

seems like OpenAI got totally slandered in all of this Navier-Stokes drama. lots of you were pretty bloodthirsty for it, too. reminder to stop listening to twitter posters whose biases are already established. instead keep an open mind until more evidence comes out

everyone knows we kinda ruined cities by relying on cars so much but it goes VERY understated how much of the problem was that we also started making the cars absolutely MASSIVE in comparison
