Been playing with Polkadot desktop app and it clicked, a widget is a .dot product (app / widget / worker) on DotNS subnames, shipped on-chain (devnet's live).
Built 9 this week. Favourite: an OpenGov widget with live approval + support gauges against the track threshold.
