President Droupadi Murmu @rashtrapatibhvn & President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa of Portugal visited the Champalimaud Foundation. Both leaders jointly planted a ‘camellia japonica’ sapling in the garden of the Foundation to commemorate 50 years of 🇮🇳-🇵🇹 diplomatic relations. Designed by the famous Indian Architect Charles Correa, the Foundation carries out advanced research in cancer & neurosciences.

President Droupadi Murmu and President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa of Portugal graced the launch of postage stamps commemorating 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The stamps reflect the rich artistic and cultural heritage of India and Portugal, and feature vibrant folk attire from both countries: Rajasthan's distinctive Kalbeliya costume, and the traditional Viana do Castelo dress from Portugal.

President Droupadi Murmu departs for historic State visits to Portugal and the Slovak Republic. These are the first State visits to either country by the President of India in more than 25 years. The visits will further expand India's multifaceted engagement with two important European Union partners.

President Droupadi Murmu met and held talks with Prime Minister Luis Montenegro of Portugal at Lisbon. Both leaders discussed the way forward for further strengthening bilateral relations. They agreed that there are greater opportunities for cooperation in many areas, such as trade and commerce, defence, science and technology, and energy.

President Droupadi Murmu held extensive discussions with President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa of Portugal. The two leaders discussed various aspects of India-Portugal relations, as well as global and regional issues of shared interest. Both leaders agreed that the bilateral relationship is based on mutual trust, understanding and cooperation on important issues, including at the multilateral level. They agreed to further strengthen the long-standing ties in several areas including trade and investment, IT, renewable energy and connectivity.

President Droupadi Murmu @rashtrapatibhvn interacted with over 60 Indian doctoral & post-doctoral researchers working in various institutions and universities all across Portugal. President Murmu guided them on various aspects & encouraged them to contribute towards Viksit Bharat.

President Droupadi Murmu attended a banquet hosted in her honour by President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa of Portugal at Palacio da Ajuda, Lisbon. The President said that this year holds special significance as we celebrate 50 years of India-Portugal bilateral relations. She emphasised that with the natural synergy and potential for cooperation in diverse fields, India-Portugal historic ties are firmly on the way to evolving into a dynamic and visionary partnership.

At the Champalimaud Foundation in Lisbon, President Droupadi Murmu had a lively interaction with Indian researchers and scholars working at the Foundation and at other institutions across Portugal. In her conversation with the scholars, she commended them for their role in deepening India-Portugal collaboration in emerging technologies and scientific research.
