President Droupadi Murmu met and held talks with Prime Minister Luis Montenegro of Portugal at Lisbon. Both leaders discussed the way forward for further strengthening bilateral relations. They agreed that there are greater opportunities for cooperation in many areas, such as trade and commerce, defence, science and technology, and energy.

At the Champalimaud Foundation in Lisbon, President Droupadi Murmu had a lively interaction with Indian researchers and scholars working at the Foundation and at other institutions across Portugal. In her conversation with the scholars, she commended them for their role in deepening India-Portugal collaboration in emerging technologies and scientific research.

President Droupadi Murmu, accompanied by President Marcelo Rebelo De Sousa, visited Champalimaud Foundation in Lisbon and witnessed various research and development initiatives, including in the fields of neuroscience, oncology, experimental clinical research, and automated medicine delivery. Minister of State, Smt. Nimuben Bambhaniya and Members of Parliament, Shri Dhaval Patel and Smt. Sandhya Ray also accompanied her. The Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown is a state-of-the-art medical, scientific and technological institution where interdisciplinary clinical care is being developed alongside applied research activities and advanced education programmes. The impressive premises of the institution were designed by renowned Indian architect Charles Correa.

The two leaders discussed various bilateral and international issues. They were in accord that regular exchanges between the Parliaments of India and Portugal would boost the people-to-people ties between the two countries.

The State Banquet hosted for President Droupadi Murmu at the historic Ajuda Palace in Lisbon Monday night became memorable as renowned Portuguese Fado musician Rão Kyao presented a melodious bamboo flute rendition of Gandhi ji's favorite bhajan 'Vaishnava Jana'. India's rich spiritual legacy found a new expression, enthralling the audience. The President thanked the musician for making possible a unique confluence of the two cultures.

The President said that this year holds special significance as we celebrate 50 years of India-Portugal bilateral relations. She emphasised that with the natural synergy and potential for cooperation in diverse fields, India-Portugal historic ties are firmly on the way to evolving into a dynamic and visionary partnership.

In a special ceremony hosted by the Mayor of Lisbon at the historic Câmara Municipal de Lisboa (City Hall), President Droupadi Murmu was presented with the "Key of Honour" of Lisbon City. The ceremony was attended by several eminent citizens of Lisbon, including the diplomatic corps and representatives of the Indian and Indo-Portuguese community. The President thanked the Mayor and the people of Lisbon for the gesture, and praised the people of Lisbon for their affectionate nature, open-mindedness, spirit of tolerance and respect for diversity.
