On July 16, Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao met with Roy Jakobs, Chief Executive Officer of Royal Philips. The two sides exchanged views on topics including Philips’ cooperation with China and government procurement. Wang Wentao noted that China is the world’s second-largest consumer market and the second-largest importer. President Xi Jinping has made it clear that China’s door will only open wider, and the country’s policies on utilizing foreign investment remain unchanged and will not be changed. The Chinese government keeps improving the business environment, promotes the construction of a unified national market, protects intellectual property rights in accordance with the law, and strongly boosts domestic consumption. Wang expressed the hope that Philips will continue to deepen its presence in the Chinese market and strengthen investment and innovation cooperation with China. Wang emphasized that unilateralism and protectionism are disrupting the international economic and trade order. He encouraged Philips to play its role as a member of the industrial community and continue to push the Netherlands and the European Union to support free trade, uphold the multilateral trading system with the WTO at its core, and push for the stable development of China–Netherlands and China–EU economic and trade relations. Roy Jakobs expressed strong confidence in the Chinese economy. He stated that Philips will increase its R&D input in China, facilitate the setup of its China R&D headquarters and the launch of new products, actively participate in the China International Import Expo and the consumer goods trade-in programs, and serve as a bridge to promote China-Netherlands and China-EU economic and trade cooperation.
