U.S missiles hit an electrical substation connected to Iran's Bushehr nuclear power plant, knocking out external power to the facility without directly striking the reactor itself.
Tehran says the plant was not damaged and only temporary local power outages were reported. If that's accurate, the reactor would have automatically switched to backup diesel generators designed for exactly this kind of scenario.
The immediate risk isn't a nuclear disaster, it's what happens if the backup systems are later damaged or unable to keep the plant cooled.
