Regulatory and Transparency Rules Officially Take Effect
The transparency-related provisions of the EU AI Act began enforcement on August 2. Interactive AI systems (such as chatbots) must clearly inform users that they are interacting with AI rather than a human;
deepfakes and AI-generated or AI-altered content must be clearly labeled and support machine-readable markings for detection.
California’s SB 942 took effect on the same day, requiring large generative AI providers with more than one million monthly active users in California to embed C2PA-compatible provenance data in images, video, and audio, and to offer a free public detection tool.
This marks the formal implementation of mandatory AI content transparency rules in major markets, with wide-reaching impact (the “Brussels effect” may drive global compliance).
