I had a change of heart on RWA paired memecoins the past few days I initially midcurved it, identifying that the vast majority of these tokens don’t net you the RWA, or do anything accretive for the holders of the memecoin. Language around that is all fugazi. But that doesn’t matter at all. Memecoins have always been a pure play on attention coupled with humor/irony. What RWA-paired memecoins offer is a novel avenue toward, simply-put, funny attention-grabbing things to happen, and narratives to play out. One obvious example is mainstream media bait. If an RWA-paired meme is responsible for anything related to impacting the financials around the RWA side, that could spark coverage, kicking off a (my favorite) price-absurdity flywheel effect. I don’t think RWA-paired memes kill or supplant non-RWA memes — they just offer many new colors and brushes on the canvas of memeticism and creativity. Taking a dumb example, off the cuff - there was a coin last cycle called “LePregnant”, based off an image of a pregnant LeBron James. I thought it was hilarious, and bought some, but it (predictably) died. What would make that coin 10x funnier? A LePregnant/Nike pair, with the mission to force Nike or LeBron to acknowledge it. Eventually the first wave of obvious combos will come to pass, but curious which ones reach escape velocity and enter mainstream news.
