I had early access to 5.6/Sol for ~month. Sol is my default. It is faster, plans/judges just as good as Fable, and I think produces better overall work. I’ll reach for Fable still for highly targeted debug or performance work with clear reward functions. A cheeky way I describe Sol vs Fable to my friends is that Sol is a charismatic, efficient, talented coworker you’re jealous of. Fable is a genius recluse that is brilliant at its fixations but doesn’t go out, doesn’t date, and you don’t want to hang out with them much lol. Fable is undefeated at highly targeted debug/security/performance goals. It’s a sight to behold and I was never able to get Sol to push as hard in this category. I’ll keep using it for this. Sol is better or comparable at everything else, in my experience. Give it a shot, it’s hard to describe but it’s just more enjoyable to work with. (Disclaimer I have no financial ties to either lab, wasn’t paid for any of this.)

Nicky is a machine. He moves at an insanely fast pace while still staying relentlessly focused on the north star. He’s incredibly efficient, but also very thoughtful in how he makes decisions. On top of that, he’s ridiculously charismatic and genuinely lovable… the kind of person who can walk into a room, break the ice instantly, and get people to cut through the bullshit. What stands out most to me though is how good he is at delegation and trust. He empowers the people around him, gives them ownership, and backs them to execute. It feels really great to have someone see your strengths and skill set and really trust your judgement and ability to execute, because they see your worth. It’s sometimes shocking to feel how un-micromanaged I am on a daily basis. Earlier this year, Nicky reached out to me and basically warned me he was about to take on something big. He told me we’d probably need to have a conversation soon about how I could help build the vision with him. One smoothie meetup in Wynwood later, I was completely sold and it’s been full speed ever since. I’m fully in my lane and essentially in my solana ecosystem dream job. I’m incredibly proud of what we’re building with @SuperteamUSA. I’m working harder than I ever have, largely because Nicky’s energy and vision for what we can accomplish in Miami and across the greater USA is genuinely inspiring. I think his vision that we are building is extremely valuable for the ecosystem, and I honestly can’t think of anyone better to lead the charge. Really proud to be doing the damn thing alongside him, and even luckier to call him a close friend. (Also today’s his birthday, so everyone wish our founding father a happy birthday.)

My favorite part about writing is that first spark of an idea. It can happen at any time, for any reason. The idea for the Opalite music video crash landed into my imagination when I was doing promo for The Life of a Showgirl. I was a guest on one of my favorite shows, @TheGNShow. For those of you who aren’t familiar, it’s a UK late night show where Graham Norton (the insanely charismatic and lovable host) invites a random group of actors, entertainers, musicians, etc to be on his show and we all sit there and chat like it’s a dinner party. They even serve wine. Anyway. I remember thinking I got ridiculously lucky with the group I was paired with. Cillian Murphy, Domhnall Gleeson, Greta Lee, Jodie Turner-Smith, and @LewisCapaldi. All people whose work I’ve admired from afar. When we were all talking during the broadcast, Domhnall made a light hearted joke about wanting to be in one of my music videos. He’s Irish! He was joking! Except that in that moment during the interview, I was instantly struck with an *idea*. And so a week later he received an email script I’d written for the Opalite video, where he was playing the starring role. I had this thought that it would be wild if all of our fellow guests on the Graham Norton show that night, including Graham himself, could be a part of it too. Like a school group project but for adults and it isn’t mandatory. To my delight, everyone from the show made the effort to time travel back to the 90’s with us and help with this video. You might even recognize some friendly faces from The Eras Tour. I got to work with one of my favorite people in the world, Rodrigo Prieto, again! I had more fun than I ever imagined - Made new friends, metaphors, and fashion choices. It was an absolute thrill to create this story and these characters. Shot on film. Happy Heavenly Birthday dad! 🕊️ I can’t believe you would have been 80 years old today. If you were here we would be in Vail skiing together celebrating! I’ll always remember the trips and memories you created for us and never ever take those moments for granted. God really blessed us with the most amazing thoughtful, patient, funny, charismatic, loving and kind dad. I sooo wish you were here to meet all of our babies and see the life we created but I know you’re somehow behind all of it. Thank you for being the best example of the purest love 🤍

New paper finds that the arrest of Luigi Mangione—and, therefore, the revelation that he had murdered Bryan Thompson—appeared to cause Democrats to increase their support for partisan violence. The authors exploit a large, two-wave survey that asked about support for political violence and was coincidentally fielded before and after the murder. They compare responses before and after Thompson's death and Mangione's arrest. The former event led to a slight decrease in support for violence among Democrats. But the latter caused a significant increase in their support for a hypothetical act of partisan violence: "For instance, comparing 7 days before and after the arrest, Democrats are estimated to agree 9 points more than Republicans that the partisan violent act described in the mock newspaper article 'could be justified' depending on the circumstances, and 7 points more than Republicans that the perpetrator in the mock article 'was likely provoked to react like that'." I doubt these results hold for just Democrats, to be clear. Rather, I think they suggest that high-profile political violence can, when committed by a charismatic or appealing offender for an allegedly just cause, persuade partisans left or right to be more supportive of political violence at the margins. As the authors write: "Support for interpartisan violence among Democrats rose only after Mangione’s public identification and arrest, that is, when a legitimizing, moralized narrative about his actions gained traction. This narrative may have activated feelings of moral justification and in-group solidarity, fostering tolerance for violence when perceived as serving a just cause."
