On Constitution Day, we honor the sacred document that created our Republic and has guided it for more than two centuries. Our Founders created a government of limited and separated powers, with checks and balances to ensure no one person or branch could become too powerful. And they made clear where that power ultimately comes from: We the People. May we never take that inheritance for granted. God bless America.

Happy Constitution Day! Celebrate the day by reading the Constitution. After all, it’s shorter than most bills Washington passes. And unlike most bills passed around here, somebody actually read it before it became law.

Happy Constitution Day! The US Constitution is designed to realize and secure the ideals articulated in the Declaration of Independence through a system premised on the need to separate, check and balance power. The framers understood that “if men were angels no government would be necessary” and “if angels were to govern men neither internal nor external controls on government would be necessary.” The constitutional architecture has witnessed many perversions throughout recent history, including extraconstitutional assertions of authority by courts, the impotence of Congress, and the endurance of a permanent and too often unaccountable bureaucracy. But it still remains the best framework for self-government ever devised. As we celebrate 250 years of the American experiment (with 239 of those under the Constitution), we should work to usher in a constitutional renaissance that will restore that great document to its rightful place at the center of American civic life.

Happy Constitution Day. 🇺🇸      On September 17, 1787, after a long, hot summer in Philadelphia, 39 delegates signed the United States Constitution.      George Washington presided. Benjamin Franklin was there. They had argued for months over representation, power, and liberty. Then they put their names on four pages that still govern us.      “We the People.”      Not a king. Not a committee. The people.      It is the oldest written national constitution still in force. It created a Republic of limited government, separated powers, and rights that do not come from Washington.      Our Founders knew it would only last if we fought to preserve it. John Adams said it was made for a moral and religious people. Washington called it the guide he would never abandon.      That charge is ours now. For our children. For the farmers and ranchers who feed this country. For every American who still believes the Constitution means what it says.      We the People. Then. Now. Always.      God bless America.
