I was honored to sign HB 392 with Delegate Askew in memory of Dawann Steagall, who inspired this legislation. This bill is part of the Queen Candis Act, a first-in-the-nation package for Sickle Cell care. This Sickle Cell Awareness Month, we recognize the thousands of Virginians living with sickle cell disease and work to improve awareness and reduce barriers to care.

Congratulations to Major Metzger, a 6th grader at Virginia Beach Middle School, who I was proud to present the Carnegie Medal today.
His story is an inspiration to us all — he put himself at great risk to save his friend Bryce who was falling off a ski lift. It was a pleasure to meet them both today and hear their story.
