The challenge is turning that data into insight—identifying the changes that matter, even when they’re difficult to distinguish from noise Our scientists are exploring applications of quantum computing to space-based data for change detection. In this example from Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, our quantum algorithm identified a subtle change between two synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images more clearly than classical computing: an aircraft come and going. Ask a question about any place on Earth and get an answer from satellite data within minutes. That is what Yugen Space is building in Tübingen. I’m featuring Yugen as part of my series around 10 years of @Cyber_Valley, looking at some of the founders and companies growing out of the ecosystem around Tübingen. Want to know where drought risk is increasing? Which fields show vegetation stress? How an area has changed over time? Yugen combines optical, radar, thermal and hyperspectral satellite data and turns it into usable analysis for people working in agriculture, infrastructure, insurance, climate and resource management. What I like about the idea is how much complexity disappears for the user. Earth observation is already incredibly powerful, but working with the underlying data usually requires specialist knowledge, tooling and time. is trying to make that intelligence accessible through a much simpler interface: choose a location, ask a question, get an answer. I’m also meeting founder Anand Waghmare for coffee in the coming days, so I’m curious to hear where he thinks Earth observation is heading next. @Cyber_Valley turns 10 on September 9. 🎉 Big milestone for @ESA’s ALTIUS — an Earth observation satellite designed to track ozone and other atmospheric trace gases. The satellite has officially passed its Platform Acceptance Review (PAR), clearing the way for ozone payload integration and final testing. The team also celebrated the successful deployment of its solar panels. Next stop: final checks and preparing for launch aboard a Vega-C rocket.
