Featured Apps are the beating heart of the Canton ecosystem... But what makes them so important to
@CantonNetwork's ongoing growth?
Put bluntly, Featured Applications (FAs) are top-tier enterprise workflows and apps driving real utility for both institutional participants and Canton’s growing consumer demographic.
How do applications reach this status and what has changed after the approval of CIP-0116?
(1) Gaining FA Status: To gain FA status, applications must submit a proposal through the
@CantonFdn’s robust governance framework. Apps are evaluated and approved by one of the ecosystem’s most important committees based on their ability to deliver genuine institutional utility and onchain activity.
(2) Skin in the Game [CIP-0116]: Approval alone is no longer enough to guarantee FA status. Following the approval of CIP-0116 in May of this year, FAs must back their status by locking significant sums of $CC (for standard FAs, this is currently 5M $CC).
(3) Maintenance: Falling below the locked threshold results in status revocation, ensuring that FA status remains exclusive to committed builders actively sustaining the network.
By adding clear market-backed requirements, Featured Apps now make sure that Canton’s core infrastructure remains secure, active, and populated with applications bringing tangible utility to the ecosystem.
