Honoring Our K9 Heroes 🐶 A special moment at LVMPD Headquarters today as we recognized two of our K9 partners. Nami, a supporter of the LVMPD Foundation’s Best of the Badge, generously donated two commemorative pavers honoring K9 Tony and K9 Leico. Members of our K9 team joined together for the unveiling and to thank Nami for her generosity and continued support of our officers and four legged partners. Thank you, Nami, for helping honor the dedication and service of K9 Tony and K9 Leico!

As more motorcycles return to our roadways, the LVMPD Traffic Bureau is reminding riders that proper training, licensing, and protective gear can make a difference. So far this year, 21 of the 83 traffic fatalities have involved motorcycle riders, and a majority of those riders were unlicensed. Each year, LVMPD officers respond to crashes involving riders who lack proper training or licensing. To help new riders learn the basics, Red Rock Harley Davidson is hosting a FREE hands-on Ride Day for individuals who have never ridden a motorcycle. 📅 Saturday, September 12, 2026 ⏰ 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. 📍 Red Rock Harley-Davidson: 2260 South Rainbow Blvd. ⭐ Additional training opportunities are also available for riders looking to improve their skills or obtain a motorcycle endorsement. Motorcycle safety is everyone’s responsibility. For riders, it starts with proper training, licensing, and wearing the right protective gear. The LVMPD Traffic Bureau encourages all motorists to stay alert, share the road, and work together to keep our roadways safe🏍️

TRAFFIC INITIATIVE! Today, LVMPD officers were out conducting traffic enforcement near I-215 and Town Center Drive as part of the Southern Nevada Traffic Task Force. During the enforcement operation, officers encountered drivers who were speeding, distracted, and simply not driving safely. These are the behaviors that can turn a routine drive into a serious or even deadly crash. When you are behind the wheel: 🚗 Slow down 📵 Put the phone away 👀 Pay attention 🔒 Buckle up ❤️ Make it home safe You’ll continue to see our officers out across the valley working to make Southern Nevada roads safer. Pay attention, because once those red and blue lights get behind you, it’s too late!

🚨 LABOR DAY WEEKEND DUI BLITZ RESULTS 🚨 Thanks to the outstanding work of patrol officers from every LVMPD area command, Traffic officers, Henderson Police officers, Nevada State Police troopers, phlebotomists, ID technicians and dispatchers, our Labor Day weekend DUI Blitz produced the following results: 756 traffic stops 468 citations 65 DUI arrests 15 other arrests 4 firearms recovered 85 vehicles towed This coordinated effort removed impaired drivers and other dangers from our roadways. Driving is a privilege, not a right. Never drive impaired—always plan for a safe ride home.

AUGUST GOOD TICKET AWARD! 🎊 This month’s Good Ticket honors Officer Grant Okinaka of the LVMPD Office of Community Engagement for his outstanding dedication to our community and local youth. Okinaka was the driving force behind last month’s “Pack the Mack” event, where 15,000 backpacks were distributed to local schoolchildren ahead of the new school year. His hard work and commitment helped make this event a tremendous success and provided thousands of students with supplies they need to start the school year. Okinaka is also a key member of the Asian American Pacific Islander Alliance (AAPIA), which works to strengthen relationships between the community and LVMPD. Through his continued efforts, he helps foster meaningful connections and builds trust between our department and the diverse communities we serve. @ResortsWorldLV, in partnership with the @LVMPDFoundation, has provided Okinaka with a staycation package, including a resort stay, food and beverage credit, and tickets to a headlining show.

Pins & Promotions! Today, we gathered at LVMPD Headquarters for our Pins & Promotions Ceremony to celebrate the incredible men and women who serve our community. Dozens were recognized for their years of service, including Deputy Chiefs Nick Farese and Chris Holmes, who both marked 25 years with the department, Police Lieutenant Charles Jenkins, who marked 35 years, and Corrections Officer Steven Young, who marked 30 years. Congratulations and thank you for your continued dedication!

JULY GOOD TICKET AWARD! 🎊 This month’s Good Ticket honors LVMPD Narcotics Detective Bryan Davila. For more than two years, Davila kept a local family updated on the investigation and legal proceedings against the drug dealer suspected in their daughter’s fentanyl overdose. He kept them connected to the District Attorney’s office and ensured their daughter’s belongings were returned once the case concluded. The family wrote a heartfelt letter to the department thanking Davila for his kindness and compassion. Today, they were at Resorts World to thank him in person! @ResortsWorldLV, in partnership with the @LVMPDFoundation, has provided the Davila with a staycation package, including a resort stay, food and beverage credit, and tickets to a headlining show.

DANGEROUS HEAT CONTINUES! 🚁 Busy Sunday for AIR1 and our @LVMPDSAR Search and Rescue (SAR) team. On Sunday, July 26, AIR1 crews responded to two separate rescue missions involving hikers in Southern Nevada. 📍Event #260700103668# | Frenchman Mountain Just after 12 p.m., AIR1 responded to Frenchman Mountain, where two hikers were suffering from heat exhaustion. Crews from @ClarkCountyFD Station 20 reached the hikers on foot before both were safely hoisted by AIR1, flown to a nearby landing zone, and transferred to waiting ground personnel. 📍Event #260700104455# | Black Mountain Around 5 p.m., AIR1 responded near Black Mountain after a hiker became lost. Personnel from the @HendFireDept responded by ground using a UTV, while Mercy Air also assisted. A Search and Rescue officer was hoisted into the area to assess the hiker before both were safely extracted by AIR1, flown to a nearby landing zone, and transferred to ground personnel. These rescues are another reminder that Southern Nevada's summer heat can quickly become dangerous. Temps between 110 and 120 degrees are in the forecast all week. ☀️ Start your hike early and avoid the hottest part of the day. 💧 Bring more water than you think you'll need. 📱 Tell someone where you're going and when you expect to return. 🥾 Know your limits and turn around before conditions become unsafe. ⚠️ Reconsider hiking outdoors in extreme heat (especially during heat advisories and extreme heat warnings!) End of Watch: Officer David VanBuskirk July 23, 2013 Officer David VanBuskirk joined LVMPD on October 6, 1999, serving in Patrol and Narcotics before joining the Search and Rescue Section in 2007. A Southern Nevada native, VanBuskirk was a loyal friend, devoted mentor, and true hero. VanBuskirk took part in hundreds of rescues, saving countless lives. On July 22, 2013, during a helicopter rescue on Mount Charleston, he fell to his death after securing a stranded hiker to the hoist cable, his final act saved a life. His courage, selflessness, and sacrifice will never be forgotten. VanBuskirk was 36 years old.
